Why We Limit Each Therapist to Three Head Spa Guests a Day

At Belle Cheveu, each head spa therapist works with no more than three guests a day, with occasional exceptions up to four. The goal is simple: every counseling session, scalp check, and treatment gets the therapist’s full attention, instead of being squeezed between back-to-back appointments.

What does “three guests a day” actually mean?

This is a per-therapist limit, not the total number of people the salon can see in a day. Belle Cheveu has several therapists working across its four Tokyo locations, so the total number of guests served each day is higher than three. What stays capped is how many guests any single therapist takes on, so that each appointment can move at an unhurried pace rather than being rushed to fit more people into the schedule.

Why does Belle Cheveu limit guests per therapist?

A Japanese head spa is not a quick service. At Belle Cheveu, every course for guests from overseas includes a counseling session, a scalp check with a microscope camera, a scalp and hair treatment lasting 75 or 90 minutes, and a Moisture Care Mist finish. Fitting in more guests per day would mean shortening one of those steps, most likely the counseling or the scalp check, since those are the parts that are easiest to rush.

By keeping the number low, therapists can take time to ask about a guest’s scalp condition, explain what the microscope check shows, and adjust the treatment instead of following the exact same routine for everyone. This matters especially for guests trying a Japanese head spa for the first time, who often have questions about what is happening and why.

The limit is a general principle rather than a fixed rule with no exceptions. On some days, a therapist may see four guests. What does not change is the intention behind it: quality of attention over number of appointments.

What this means when you book a treatment

Because each therapist only takes a small number of guests per day, appointment slots are limited, and Belle Cheveu operates on a reservation-only basis with no walk-ins. Guests book online, including before arriving in Japan, and an early reservation is especially useful during busy travel seasons or if you want a specific date and time.

This is also why a Japanese head spa is not something you can typically decide to try on the spot. Planning your visit a few days or more in advance, rather than the same day, gives you a better chance of getting the time slot you want.

Is this common at other head spa salons in Japan?

Guest limits per therapist vary by salon, and not every head spa business in Japan operates the same way. Some salons prioritize seeing as many guests as possible in a day; others, like Belle Cheveu, choose to limit each therapist’s schedule instead. Neither approach is universal, so it is worth checking a salon’s booking policy directly if this is important to you.

Belle Cheveu’s approach since 2006

Belle Cheveu has focused only on head spa treatments, with no haircuts, coloring, or perms, since opening in July 2006. All of its therapists are licensed beauticians. The three-guests-a-day guideline is one part of how the salon has kept its focus on scalp counseling and personalized treatment across its four locations in Tokyo: Komazawa, Daikanyama, Hiroo, and Yoyogi-koen.
